Our Favorite Things

💁 Mrs. Johnson-

I love food, trying new places, Chili's, Ringer Hut, Dish 'n Dash, Pinkberry, Yogurtland, Frankie, Johnny and Luigis…any food!  Of course, Starbucks is a winner in my book- it’s food and drink all in one.

I love shopping! Some of my favorite stores are Nordstrom, Macys, Target, TJ Max, Ikea, and Kohls (and Amazon too!)

I love the movies, basketball (Go Warriors!), snowboarding, the beach, and anything outdoors.

💁 Mrs. Spinks-

I also LOVE to shop!  Some of my favorite places to shop are: Amazon, Macy's, Ross, Bed Bath & Beyond, At Home, Costco, Sketchers, and Dollar Tree, but especially AMAZON!

"My favorite things to make for dinner are reservations" haha.  Some of my favorite places to eat are: Stacks, Original Joes, Mission City Grill, Lazy Dog, Spaghetti Factory, Fish Market, Casa Lupe, China Stix, Azuma, Cold Stone, and of course, I LOVE Starbucks :)

Some of my interests include going to the movies (AMC), gardening, traveling, photography, going to musicals and riding roller coasters.

Did you also know that I love all things Mickey Mouse/Disneyland, my favorite flowers are Hydrangeas, and I am a SJ Sharks hockey fan?

Mrs. Spinks & Mrs. Nakamoto-Johnson

Your Room 22 Teachers

Karen Spinks and Alaina Johnson-

We are very fortunate at Laurelwood to be able to fulfill our dreams of being both teachers and mothers, plus the students get to have not one, but two dedicated teachers! 2022-2023 marks the 19th year of our successful job-share team of "Spinks-Johnson" at Laurelwood, and our 22nd year teaching in SCUSD.  As a 50% Job Share Team, Mrs. Johnson will be teaching the students every Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs. Spinks will be teaching the class every Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, we alternate who is in the classroom. Co-teaching partner planning, along with constant communication between us, ensures consistency in the classroom for you and your student.

Keeping Informed
  • LAURELWOOD'S SCHOOL CALENDAR (Provided through Google Calendar) https://bit.ly/3gEGC7V
  • UPDATE YOUR AERIES PARENT PORTAL: Note that all school & district communication will be through ParentSquare, which is the communication portion of "Aeries". To ensure that you receive important information, be sure that your contact information (i.e. email addresses and cell phone numbers) are correct in your Aeries Parent Portal.
  • THURSDAY ENVELOPES: Watch for your child’s weekly Thursday Envelope, which contains important information and corrected work.  Envelopes should be returned each Friday.  Please do NOT send anything back inside the Thursday Envelopes, as we do NOT check inside them when they are returned.  If you are sending notes, cafeteria money, PTA forms, homework, etc. to us, be sure to do so using the "Bring Back” pockets of your Room 22 student’s HOMEWORK Folder

🎂 Birthdays

The school’s practice, due to the district’s nutrition policy, along with helping to ensure equity for all, is that students/parents are NOT permitted to bring treats, favors, etc. to school for class for birthday celebrations. Individual teachers have special ways to acknowledge students’ birthdays in-class. On the same note, party invitations may not be distributed in/through class, or by teachers (e.g. in Thursday Envelopes), or during recesses. Party invitations should be distributed outside of the school hours & gates (i.e. USPS, hand delivery, or other similar to individual homes is most preferred!)
