Birthdays

Dear Room B Families,

I know that birthdays are a special day for your child and I ensure that he/she will be recognized by the teacher and classmates in a very special way. In light of the district’s wellness and nutrition guidelines that were instituted during the 2007-2008 school year, and in an effort to minimize classroom interruption time, we have discontinued the previous practice of in-class birthday celebrations, including the distribution of food or other birthday treats during class time. Because of the nutrition guidelines, as well as to ensure equitable celebrations for each student, any food or other treats/goody bags sent in for birthdays will be turned away at the door to be returned back home. If you would like, some birthday children donate an educational game to the class or a book to our class library. In Room B, I celebrate each child’s very special day with a crown, a special chair cover, and a small prize. We also recognize the birthday child by singing the birthday song. The birthday child is also the teacher’s helper for the day. For students with weekend/holiday birthdays, their special day will be recognized either the Friday before, or within the first few days back to school. Sincerely, Mrs. Tabor
