Attendance Procedures

Attendance, Absences & Tardies:

Your child’s attendance is crucial to his/her success in school.  Most of our learning experiences will take place within the classroom environment.  Therefore, it is important for your child to attend school.

If your child is going to be absent, please contact the office at (408) 423-1605 or e-mail laurelwoodattendance@scusd.net.  Please feel free to email me as well.  lwillcoxen@scusd.net  If your child is late, please send them directly to the office for a late pass as we will be taking attendance the first few minutes of class.

Illness

Illness:  There are times when your child may be ill with a fever, bad cold with green or yellow mucus, a bad cough, or vomiting. If your child demonstrates any of these symptoms, please keep him or her at home and call the office to let us know.  If your child has a fever 100 or above, they need to stay home for 24 hours WITH NO FEVER before they come back to school.

Incoming KINDERGARTEN Families- PLEASE READ

Welcome to Laurelwood!  Many of you many be wondering what you can do to help make sure your precious little one is ready for this big step. Please take some time to read through this list of things your child should know to make the beginning of kindergarten a breeze! Of course, we at Laurelwood always welcome all children and will meet them where they are and help them to get to the next step on their learning journey, but making sure your child knows these few things can help make the kindergarten experience a successful one from the very first day! Also, you can make sure your kindergartner comes to school with all of his or her supplies by checking out our supply list here .

Kindergarten Homework Policy

Homework:  Kindergarten does not require homework.  You may choose to complete a monthly reading log, however it is completely optional.   If you are interested in having more practice for your child, Morrison’s School Supply or Lakeshore are great resources for extra cutting, writing, and letter/sound work. Later in the year they will bring home books at their level to read to you, but please continue to read to your child all year long.  Periodically a “project” will be sent home.  These projects will be directly related to what is being taught in the classroom.
