Laurelwood is proud to present its version of the Nutcracker  musical each December.  For those planning on attending, audience members are being asked the following:

PLEASE NO VIDEOTAPING, FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, IPADs, TABLETS or TRIPODS during the evening performances

We have a professional videographer taping the evening performances and DVD's of each show are available for purchase using the attached order form (please submit orders directly to address on form).

Filming and/or flash photography are not only inconsiderate of the other guests seated near/behind you, but the held up devices, screen light and photography flashes spoil the professional taping. Please be respectful and considerate of your fellow parents/audience members.

If you insist on videotaping yourself, you may do so from the rear of the cafeteria at the morning performances ONLY.

Thank you for following these requests in order to help make the experience a great one for the performers and audience members!

Hello Laurelwood Families,

Laurelwood Elementary School’s very own The Nutcracker is coming to the stage on December 18th and 19th.  Our third, fourth and fifth graders have been working hard to put on a spectacular production and we hope you can join us for the big shows.

In order for over 100 kids to take the stage, we need lots of help with our bake sake, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes for performances. There are many ways to volunteer!

You can support the overall production by signing up here:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084ba5a922a31-20171

If you would like to help with hair, make-up, and costumes during the dress rehearsal and performances, please sign up here:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084ba5a922a31-2017

We will be having a fabulous bake sale to raise money for much-needed costume and stage updates.  Please consider bringing your delicious baked goods, fruit kabobs, etc. for one or both of the evening performances. Please sign up here:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4dadae2caaf94-laurelwood

Also, be sure to bring your wallets to purchase goodies for your family and performers. We'll also have lovely roses for sale if you'd like to purchase one for a Nutcracker performer.

Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing lwnutcracker@gmail.com.

Dear Laurelwood Families,

The PTA would like to thank all of the generous families that donated to PTA.  During this season of giving, we hope people who didn’t get around to donating yet are inspired to submit a donation today.  The Laurelwood PTA is a non-profit organization and your donation is tax-deductible.  Our mission is to provide enriching activities and events for every student at Laurelwood.  Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to experience some of our fun, family events so far this year like Ice Cream Social, Multicultural Festival and Family Reading Night.  We have more fun planned for the winter and spring, so please join us!  And please consider donating to the PTA as well as contacting your employer about corporate matching.  All donations are voluntary and any amount is appreciated.

Submit a check or donate online at: http://laurelwoodpta.wixsite.com/home/ways-to-give.

Thank you and happy holidays,

Laurelwood School The Holiday Wish Drive: Holiday Gifts to Needy

This holiday season, Laurelwood will again participate in The Holiday Wish Drive which sponsored by The Family Giving Tree. The Family Giving Tree is a local nonprofit organization that collects gifts for underprivileged children during the holidays and distributes them to more than 100 local nonprofit agencies. Agencies submit children’s gift wishes and The Family Giving Tree creates wish tags that are then hung on giving trees at local organizations and businesses. Last year The Family Giving Tree distributed gifts for 65,000 youngsters of all ages in the Bay Area—over 100 of these came from Laurelwood! At Laurelwood School, The Family Giving Tree will be set up in the library starting on Tuesday, November 28th.

Students who wish to participate may come to the library and select a wish tag from the tree. Students are then responsible for purchasing a gift and returning it to school, with the wish tag attached by Tuesday, December 12th by 10:00 A.M..

Gifts may be wrapped or unwrapped, unless the wish tag explicitly states that the gift should not be wrapped. Please note that participation in this program is ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. It is being offered as a simple and convenient way to teach our children about the spirit of giving during the holiday season. Because students pick a tag which lists the recipient child’s name, gender, age and wish, this is a unique and personalized opportunity for Laurelwood students to learn about those less fortunate than themselves and develop empathy for others. If you would like your child to participate in The Family Giving Tree, please sign the ATTACHED form and return it to your child’s TEACHER right away.

Dear Laurelwood Dads,

Watch D.O.G.S. will be hosting a "Dads and Desserts" kick off event on Tuesday, November 28th at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.

Laurelwood is proud to have the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) Across America program once again.  With this program, you will have the opportunity to spend a day on campus with your child.  Watch D.O.G.S. is a nationally recognized non-profit program that was started in 1998 with the goals of raising the banner of positive fathering, awakening fathers to the values and benefits of committed fathering, helping every school in America to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father figures in their children’s lives, reconnecting Dads with their kids, and sowing the seeds of success and impacting academic performance.

Halloween was very fun and the students looked great in their costumes! It sounds like many of you had a wonderful time that evening as well. It'd be very helpful if you kept that tasty Halloween candy for students to enjoy at home instead of sending them for snack recess or lunch.

Thank you for your help with assuring students are fueling their bodies with healthy foods at school for a successful time of learning and socializing.

Each year, each grade level takes two or more field trips, but in order for this to happen, we need your help. A donation of $30 per student will help cover the cost of busing and entrance fees for field trips. Please note that the school donations we are asking for are SEPARATE from the money that the PTA is requesting through their PTA 'Direct Donation' campaign. Because the PTA supports so many wonderful things on campus, they are only able to pay for just ONE of each grade’s field trips per year, and so we must rely on monetary donations made directly to the school to cover all other field trips. Any amount is appreciated and donations are completely voluntary. Parents who wish to make a donation to grade-level field trips may submit cash or a check made payable to “Laurelwood Elementary School” and submit to your child's teacher, along with the bottom portion of the attached form.   We thank you, in advance, for your support to help make field trips possible for Laurelwood students.

Plan to chaperone a field trip and/or help in class?

If you plan to help chaperone any field trips this year, please be sure to fill out and submit a new Volunteer Application Packet for THIS school year.  This process must be completed  EVERY school year.  Per district policy, only those who have been cleared through the application process may accompany field trips. Waiting for a field trip to be announced is too late to turn in your packet to be cleared to attend that trip, so be sure to submit your application right now.  For your convenience, an application for 2017-18 is also attached.

Thank you for your continued support of Laurelwood students!
